Wedding Decorations – Top Tips for Your Big Day

Wedding Decorations – Top Tips for Your Big Day

The wedding decorations! The very thought can be daunting. Naturally you want everything to be perfect for your big day – and there are so many choices and options – many of them very expensive indeed – that the whole process can become quite overwhelming.

Cheap wedding decorations?

Well of course not – nobody wants cheap decorations! But if you can get decent decorations or materials for decorations at a bargain price – well that’s much more tantalizing.

First things first – get a wedding decoration master team in place! Both mothers are likely to be keen to get involved, and you should take all of the help you can get – assuming they have good taste that is. Even if they don’t, they can still help you as long as you make sure to be around for all the key decisions and don’t let anyone sideline your own opinions with theirs.

Once you have your key players, first brainstorm what you would like. When you’ve decided on your winning wedding decoration idea then you can go about sourcing the very best value materials, wedding reception decorations and wedding table decorations available.

When you are at the stage of shopping around, try to remain a little bit flexible – so that if for example you find a great deal on silk flowers, which usually will be a little pricier than fresh ones, you can swap and change around in order to get the best overall price on your wedding decorations.

Wedding table decoration ideas

Miniature cakes are popular wedding table decorations and are great fun for someone to cook and decorate for you – which can mean a great value and low-effort wedding table decoration! Individual cakes are thoughtful and novel decorations / mini-gifts which your guests will love to take to home with them.

Wedding reception decorations and flowers – how to get the best value?

Silk flowers are often used as an alternative to fresh flowers, and while the have the advantage of looking good for much longer, they tend to be more expensive. Fresh flowers are worth the trouble of sourcing and keeping fresh, if for no other reason than their scent!

If you are looking to arrange your own flower wedding decorations, you are not likely to get much of a bulk discount from your florist. Wedding decorations are their bread and butter and they prefer to sell you the whole service.

For good value flowers, you would do better to ask around local market stallholders, as they may have access to wholesale flower markets, which don’t sell to the general public. If you put some feelers out nice and early, you may find that someone is willing to put a special order in for you.

Have a wonderful wedding!

Whatever you eventually choose for your decorations, remember that price is not everything. Your wedding decorations don’t have to be expensive for your wedding to be beautiful and memorable!

 Halloween Decorations

posted by Magriet Du Plessis on September 24, 2008 8:42 as General

Halloween Decorations

If you have children, Halloween is a great excuse to have some family fun together. It's an opportunity to dress up the whole family in weird and frightening costumes; and to decorate your normally peaceful home in the out-of-this-world Halloween theme, turning it into a scary haunted house to the delight of your children.

Every year can be such family fun opening up the boxes of your stock of Halloween decorations. Children love getting out the hairy giant spiders and spider webs, spooky ghosts, witches on broomsticks, ghoulish outfits and costumes, vampire teeth, witches hats and noses and everything else that goes into making up Halloween. You would think it would frighten them, but children take great delight helping put up the the haunting and eerie decorations that go with Halloween.

Everyone goes about their Halloween celebration in a different way. Some are too busy or not interested. Many people just make their Halloween decoration simple, such as simply carving out a pumpkin face, putting a candle inside and placing it in a window facing the street.

Others like to put in an all-out effort in their front yard, with subdued and changing lighting, lightning flashes, cemetery tombstones, zombies, ghosts, vampires, bats, spider webs and even fog machines and sound effects. It's quite a wacky idea when you think about it, but all good fun. Yet other people concentrate on a Halloween decoration for their front door entry way, to offer a spooky welcome to trick or treaters.

It can be well worth loading up the family and friends in your car at dusk and driving around your neighbourhood in the days leading up to Halloween, just to see and enjoy the amazing effort some people will put in to participate and share in the celebration. You can bet your children will be planning out their trick or treating when they know who is in the Halloween spirit and likely to welcome them with good fun, and a good stock of candies and sweet treats.

Occasionally you will find people who also decorate the inside of their homes, and perhaps have tours through their seasonally haunted house to show it off and to raise funds for a charity. Your family will take delight in the visit experience if you are fortunate to have one of these enthusiasts in your neighbourhood.

Others like to decorate just a room or two in their homes as the theme for a Halloween costume dinner or party, and invite guests around for some Halloween fun.

Whatever your budget, there is a growing choice of Halloween decorations to choose from today. With better manufacturing methods and more imaginative designs, the quality of Halloween decorations on offer seems to get better every year. Even if you prefer to make your own decorations, or have accumulated a stock of decorations over the years, there will always be a few new additions to catch your eye in the shops leading up to Halloween.

Birthday Party Decorations – Ideas for Parties both Large and Small

posted by Magriet Du Plessis on May 27, 2008 19:03 as General

Hi Everyone,

Some ideas on Birthday Party Decorations, Enjoy!

Birthday Party Decorations – Ideas for Parties both Large and Small

Birthday party decoration ideas can be a lot of fun. Try to find the time and space to enjoy the process of choosing (and even making!) your party decorations rather than rushing and getting stressed about it.

Kid party decoration ideas

The best way to come up with a birthday theme for your child, and birthday party decoration ideas, is to pick a topic that they love. Choose from one of their favorite:

  • Sports
  • Cartoon characters
  • Movies
  • Animals
  • Hobbies

… and you’ll have a sure-fire winner idea. It’s amazing how thrilled and appreciative young kids are when you make the effort to have their birthday party decorations reflect their individual hobby or passion.

Birthday themes

If you can, carry the birthday theme throughout all the birthday party decorations. The cake is an obvious place to start; bake or buy a cake as a centerpiece decoration and then you can plan balloons, banners and other decorations around it – as well as invitations and party bags.

You could even have everyone including the guests dress up in fancy dress to go along with the birthday theme you’ve chosen for your child.

Child birthday party decoration surprises – or joint effort?

Getting the perfectly decorated party as a surprise is always lovely; but your child might enjoy even more the opportunity to get involved from the start – kids love helping and planning so why not consider making the whole party preparation adventure a joint effort?

You could choose to keep one element a surprise – the cake for instance – but then you might create decorations together, blow up balloons together, put party bags together – all these things are great fun projects that young kids will enjoy doing with you!

Birthday party decorations for double parties

If you have twins, or children whose birthdays are close together, you may be faced with the challenge of a double party. This can be especially tricky when the birthdays are close in date, but the children are quite wide apart in age.

My friend had a joint birthday party for her older boy and young daughter, and used a novel approach to make the preparations fun for both of them. She let each of them think that the party was for the other child. The girl helped Mom put up blue “boy” decorations while the boy was out picking up a “Barbie” cake from the store. Then when the daughter was out of the way the other set of decorations went up – pink ones! – And the party was a successful combination of two birthday themes, made extra special for these siblings because each of them was focused on making the day special for the other!

Enjoy your day,
Jacob

 Monogram Wedding Cake Toppers

posted by Magriet Du Plessis on May 12, 2008 17:49 as General

Hi Everyone,

A Wedding Cake Decorating Idea:

Monogram Wedding Cake Toppers

Using a monogram is a classic method to customize the look and feel of many items. An embroidered monogram in clothing can give it the extra appeal that you require in an office setting. Monogram stationery adds your own unique taste when you write letters or leave memos for others.

Monograms aren't just for clothes and paper, either. They're an excellent way to add a professional and elegant atmosphere to a social gathering. Monogram napkins are a great way to add class to a wedding. Also, you can use a monogram design for wedding cake toppers.

Monogram wedding cake toppers are an interesting change to the typical bride and groom adornment that is found on most cakes. With a specially designed wedding cake topper, you can build onto the atmosphere or theme that you're looking for. At the very least, you can get rid of the ordinary bride and groom ornament and add a little pizzazz to your cake.

Creating your own custom monogram wedding cake topper couldn't be easier. Many stores have preset designs for you to pick and choose from. If you need something simple but stylish, you can browse through the different types of lettering that is offered. Or maybe you require a look that only a specific material can fulfill. In that case, you can choose between items such as solid brushed metal or gold acrylic mirror.

Make sure to choose the right color for your monogram wedding cake topper as well. There exists a wide variety of colors to choose from. If you desire something that stands out, you can go with a ruby or topaz look. If that's too fancy for you, there are more simple choices such as gold or silver.

There are many types of monogram wedding cake toppers for you to decide on. A crystal covered single letter monogram adds a touch of beauty to your wedding cake. A ceramic cake topper can also yield the same atmosphere while producing a different effect altogether. The possibilities are limitless.

Where would one start their search for these exquisite items? A wedding supplies and accessories store should have a few of these items in stock. You may have to look around though, especially if you are looking for something specific. Be sure to ask friends and family if they know any good wedding shops.

Being a highly unique accessory, monogram wedding cake toppers can be expensive. Depending on where you shop, you might be paying for the number of letters, the size, or the amount of decoration on the cake topper. Of course, hosting a wedding is a rare lifetime event, so don't be afraid to spare no expense. It will be worth it when you get the design you're looking for.

Don't omit any small details when the time comes to plan and host your wedding. If you need a small decoration to spruce up your wedding cake, try a monogram wedding cake topper. A simple detail might just make your wedding a whole lot memorable.

Enjoy your day,

Jacob

Wedding crafts to help with cheap decoratins and more

posted by Magriet Du Plessis on May 03, 2008 6:35 as General

Hi Everyone,

Here are a few ideas about wedding crafts that can save you a lot of money on your wedding decorations and more:

Ideas for Saving Money With Your Wedding: Crafts To Help With Decorations And More!

Weddings are happy occasion but thy can get very expensive. With wedding crafts you can insert a personal touch and keep the costs down as well. Here are a few ideas for wedding crafts to add sparkle and creativity to your big day.

1. Make your own veil:

It is not that hard to create your own wedding veil. To make a wedding veil, you will need a length of bridal illusion in the desired length. You will also need a comb to attach it to your hair and a headpiece to cover the comb, the headpiece can be very simple, I covered the comb on my wedding veil with feathers and it looked stunning. Even a simple tow of flowers can look very pretty, especially on a young bride. Sew large running stitches about an inch from the end of the illusion and gather it tightly. Now sew the veil to the comb. Top with your headpiece. As an alternative, you can decorate a wide-brimmed straw hat with silk flowers, ribbon, and pearls.

2. Make your own bouquets:

The bouquets and floral arrangements can also be done by you or with the help of family and friends. For a simple outdoor wedding, consider wild flowers. They are free and have a charm all of their own. Bouquets can be arranged in large clear vases, with a bow tied elegantly around.

3. Make the wedding favors yourself:

Favors for the guests are particularly appropriate wedding crafts. Refrigerator magnets are a simple and well-received favor. A really nice idea is to make a magnetic picture frame and include a picture of the couple. You could cut a frame out of craft foam in one of the wedding colors, arrange over the photo, and glue all onto a cardboard backing. Place self-adhesive magnet tape on the back of the cardboard. Decorate the front of the frame with foil heart stickers and a monogram of the couple's last name.

3. Make your own bows for the pews or rows:

Bows for the ends of the pews or rows make simple wedding crafts. Wide velvet ribbons are nice for fall and winter weddings, while satin is more appropriate for spring and summer weddings. Loop some flat lace in with the ribbons. In the center of the completed bow, attach some silk flowers and pearl sprays with a hot glue gun.

4. Decorate your own cake:

Perhaps you'd like to try your hand at decorating your own cake. Check the craft section of the department store for pans and gadgets of all types to help you create a cake to remember. Do remember, though, that it takes a steady hand. Be sure to practice before starting on the real cake.

Preparing for a wedding can be expensive, but with wedding crafts, you can take some of the sting out. Plan early, however, because it will take a some time to make favors for everyone and all the other little details you will want to take care of. Maybe creating wedding crafts will even relieve some of those wedding jitters. In any event, crafting your own wedding items is a way to have a personal, beautiful, and less expensive wedding. Most important of all, it is a tremendous amount of fun.

 Wedding Decorations: Place Card Holders

posted by Magriet Du Plessis on April 20, 2008 13:54 as General

Hi Everyone,

Here are a few ideas about place card holders as part of your wedding decorations:

Planning a wedding can be a monumental undertaking. There are just so many small details to tend to including choosing a dress, picking a florist and ensuring you choose a venue that will accommodate all your friends and family. In addition, you need to decide on a dinner menu, and where everyone will be seated. The seating arrangements can actually be incredibly stressful because you want to be certain that everyone knows where their assigned seat is. An easy and inexpensive way to do this is with place card holders. You can purchase them in many different styles, so you’re certain to find one that fits in with the theme of your wedding.

1. Silver place card holders for an elegant wedding:

Elegant, evening weddings are increasing in popularity. Getting married outside at dusk can be incredibly romantic. The reception for a celebration like this typically includes a late dinner. Using silver place card holders on white tablecloths with silver trimmed dinnerware would look beautiful. If you are concerned with the cost of genuine silver place card holders consider using silver plated ones. These are just as striking to look at and much easier on the budget.

2. Plastic colored place card holders for a more informal wedding:

If your marriage is planned for the afternoon at a friend’s home, you’ll want to forego the silver holders for something more casual. Plastic colored place card holders work well in this instance. If your wedding colors are blue and white, choose holders that are a slightly different blue than the attendant’s dresses. If you’ve opted for a barbeque or picnic, consider using folded cardstock paper to indicate where people should sit. This may seem too informal, but you really do want the accessories to match the tone of the wedding.

3. Place card holders that double up as wedding favors:

Most brides and grooms opt to give their guests a small take home treat at the end of the celebration. It’s viewed as a keepsake to help them remember the special day. Place card holders can double as keepsakes, especially the handmade versions. If you have a crafty aunt or grandmother who wants to contribute to the wedding, ask them to help you make place holders. They can be as simple as tiny photo frames embellished with sea shells for a wedding at the beach. Once the day is over the guests can remove their name from the frame and use it to place a picture of the happy couple or anyone they choose. Items like this, those that serve a dual purpose, help to bring the overall cost of the wedding down.

Your imagination is really the most important thing when it comes to choosing all your wedding accessories. Get creative, have fun and most of all enjoy the special day with all your guests.

Enjoy your day,

Magriet
